Flagstaff Breweries: The Local Craft Beer and Mead Map

Flagstaff's beer scene is bigger than a town of 77,000 deserves: a walkable downtown brewery circuit, east-side taprooms, a Route 66 meadery, Arizona cider, and Oktoberfest.

Flagstaff is not the kind of town you expect to have a dozen breweries. It has them anyway. Step between downtown and the east side and you will find more than a dozen brewery and taproom locations pouring local beer, plus the town's first and only meadery on Route 66, real cider on tap at several venues, and an Oktoberfest that fills Wheeler Park every October. For a city of about 77,000 people at 7,000 feet, the craft beer scene is one of Flagstaff's best open secrets.

How many breweries are in Flagstaff?

Roughly a dozen brewery and taproom locations pour local beer between downtown and the east side. Most sit within an easy walk of Historic Route 66 downtown, which makes Flagstaff one of the most walkable beer towns in the Southwest: you can tour three or four taprooms in an evening without getting in a car. The Discover Flagstaff brewery directory keeps the running list, and it is honestly longer than most outsiders expect.

The downtown brewery circuit

Downtown is where the scene started and where it stays busiest. These are the anchors, all within a few blocks of each other:

  • Beaver Street Brewery, 11 S Beaver St: Flagstaff's original brewpub, pouring since 1994, with a family-friendly taproom and a full kitchen.
  • Lumberyard Brewing Co., 5 S San Francisco St: a big, lively brewpub downtown since 2010 with a restaurant menu and a long draft list.
  • Dark Sky Brewing Co., 117 N Beaver St: a taproom with a strong rotating lineup, with Pizzicletta, its wood-fired pizzeria, sharing the building. A second location, the Dark Sky Beer Garden + Atmosphere Kitchen, sits at 103 W Birch Ave.
  • Flagstaff Brewing Company, 16 Historic Rte 66: the Route 66 original, pouring downtown since 1994.
  • Mother Road Brewing Company, 7 S Mikes Pike: named for the Mother Road itself, a taproom and restaurant near the tracks downtown.
  • Historic Brewing Company Barrel House, 110 S San Francisco St: the downtown taproom arm of Historic Brewing.
  • Grand Canyon Brewing + Distillery, 1800 S Milton Rd: beer and spirits under one roof on the south side of town.
  • Hops On Birch: a downtown taproom known for long draft lists and a playful events calendar, from bingo nights to live music.

The east-side taprooms

The east side is where the scene goes local-quiet, and it is worth the drive. Two breweries anchor it:

  • Wanderlust Brewing Company, 1519 N Main St: a neighborhood taproom east of downtown with a devoted regular crowd.
  • Historic Brewing Company Eastside, 4366 E Huntington Dr: Historic's east-side home near the mall, an easy off-ramp from I-40.

Mother Road also opened a second brewery and taproom at its Butler Ave location in early 2023, giving the east side its own destination for a full evening out.

Mead from a Route 66 meadery

Beer is not the only local pour. Drinking Horn Meadery at 108 E Route 66 has been making mead from local honey since 2014, the first and only meadery in Flagstaff. Its Mead Hall doubles as an event space downtown, hosting community nights like the grown-ups' spelling bee.

What about cider?

Flagstaff does not have a dedicated craft cidery yet, but that does not mean no cider. Cider pours at a handful of taprooms including Lumberyard, Mother Road, Historic's Barrel House, Mountain Top Tap Room, and Hops On Birch. Arizona cider from Prescott, Stoic Cider, has also been available in Flagstaff since 2025, so the gluten-free and cider crowd has real options.

Oktoberfest and the annual beer festival

Two big annual events anchor the beer calendar. The 17th annual Flagstaff Oktoberfest takes over Wheeler Park on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 10 AM to 9 PM, with craft beer, brats, live music, and kids' activities. Each June, the Flagstaff Beer Festival at Fort Tuthill hosts a 21+ tasting with 15-plus breweries, a fundraising event run by Rugged Nature Productions that raises money for northern Arizona nonprofits; the 2026 edition poured on June 20.

A quick guide to picking your brewery

With the family

Beaver Street and Lumberyard are the family-friendly brewpubs: full kitchens, big dining rooms, and taprooms where kids are welcome.

For the pours

Dark Sky, Mother Road, and Historic's taprooms lean into rotating seasonal taps, small-batch experiments, and food pop-ups. Bring a growler or a flight and take your time.

Beer with wood-fired pizza

Pizzicletta at Dark Sky is the local institution for that combination, and it is one of the reasons the taproom draws a crowd most nights.

To get out of downtown

Wanderlust and Historic Eastside reward the drive with quieter taprooms, easier parking, and a more neighborhood feel.

What the beer map tells you about moving here

A brewery scene this size is a genuinely good signal for someone considering a move: it means density, a younger workforce, tourism traffic, and a downtown that actually gets used. Restaurants and taprooms are usually the first sector to feel a neighborhood's energy, which is why Mike keeps an eye on openings and permits when buyers ask where the town is heading. For newcomers, the taproom circuit is also one of the easiest ways to meet people in the first month.

The beer scene pairs well with the rest of the local map: the full food and drink list lives on the Living Here page, and the neighborhood guides show which parts of town keep you closest to all of it.
