Flagstaff Restaurant News: New Openings, Closings, and What's Coming Next

Pompette and Little Rich Girl are weeks from opening, Foxtail Coffee and Tropical Smoothie are in, and Salsa Brava's 40-year run has ended. The sourced late-October rundown.

Flagstaff's dining scene moves fast, and the fall of 2026 has been one of the busiest stretches in recent memory. Here is the late-October snapshot: two highly anticipated concepts are weeks from opening downtown, several new coffee and breakfast spots landed through the year, and a 40-year institution closed its doors with a new concept planned in the same building. Every item below links back to the local reporting that confirmed it, so you can verify before you head out.

Two new concepts are about to open downtown

The biggest news on the table is downtown. Chef Rochelle Daniel, the two-time James Beard semifinalist behind Atria, is preparing to open two dining concepts at 101 N. Leroux Street: Pompette, an all-day French bistro and bakery, and Little Rich Girl, an underground speakeasy-style cocktail bar beneath Atria. Pompette opens each morning with a grab-and-go bakery counter, then moves to lunch and dinner, with a French-inspired menu built around steak frites, coq au vin, mussels, tuna tartare, a lobster roll on house-made brioche, and wagyu skewers cooked over a custom open-fire hearth.

The timing has shifted several times: announced for summer, pushed to mid-September, and most recently reported as expected to open later this month or in early November. Nothing is confirmed until the doors actually open, so check the latest word before you set your heart on a table.

Newly open this year: coffee, smoothies, and a café mashup

Several newcomers have already landed and settled in. Foxtail Coffee Co. opened in March at University Plaza Shopping Center, a coffee house with seating for 48 inside and 20 on the patio, and it has become part of the morning rotation on the east side.

Tropical Smoothie Cafe officially opened the week of July 10 at the Greentree Village Shopping Center on South Milton Road, giving the south side a new smoothie and wrap option near all the Milton Road hotels.

And in September, two longtime favorites merged into one: Brandy's Cafe and Proper Meats + Provisions combined into Brandy's Proper Cafe in the former Grand Canyon Cafe building along Route 66, serving breakfast from 7:00 AM to noon and lunch from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The full story of that move is on the blog.

Coming soon and in the works

Beyond Pompette and Little Rich Girl, a few more things are percolating around town.

  • Late For The Train, a new coffee shop coming to 19A E. Aspen Avenue downtown, across from Heritage Square.
  • Satchmo's BBQ confirmed a second location in Munds Park, taking over the former Agee's BBQ space on the I-17 corridor south of town.
  • A new-concept eatery is planned for the former Salsa Brava address at 2220 E. Route 66, where owner John Conley intends to keep the corner alive with something new.
  • 2 Bar 3 Cafe and Saloon, a cafe, bar, and music venue that was listed as opening in spring 2026; status has been fluid, so check the current word before counting on it.

What closed, and what it means

Salsa Brava's 40-year run comes to an end

The big one: Salsa Brava closed Saturday, September 12, 2026, after 40 years at 2220 E. Route 66, one of the longest-running restaurants in Flagstaff history. Owner John Conley has said a new-concept eatery will open in the same building, so the landmark address should not stay empty long.

Brown Bag Burger + Bar closes on the west side

Brown Bag Burger + Bar announced its permanent closure in late July at The Standard, 824 W. Route 66, ending a three-year run on the west end of the historic highway. Owner Ian Burns confirmed the news to the Arizona Daily Sun.

The corridor and downtown changes from last winter

A little further back on the calendar: Agee's BBQ in Munds Park closed in December 2025, and Satchmo's BBQ confirmed it will take over the space, keeping the barbecue scene alive in the mountain communities south of town. Downtown, The McMillan Bar and Kitchen served its last meal in December 2025 after more than a decade on North Leroux, and its space folded into an expanded Alpine Pizza, which returned under Scottsdale-based Genuine Concepts and has been busy since.

Why the food news matters if you are moving here

A dining scene that keeps opening new rooms is a quiet signal about the town itself: Flagstaff has the population, the NAU student body, and the visitor traffic to keep restaurants full year-round, even through the snow months. For someone planning a move, the food map is also one of the fastest ways to feel at home, and most of this year's action has clustered in the areas the neighborhood guides cover in detail: downtown around the Leroux and Aspen blocks, the east side along Route 66, and the Milton Road corridor.

Where this roundup comes from

Every item above is sourced to local reporting published this year: the Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff Business News, and Route 66 News, with links to each story in place. Openings and closures move fast, and dates shift, so confirm on the source before you make plans around any of it. If you hear something coming that is not listed yet, send it to Mike and it goes on the board to verify.
